CULTURE compiler-update gas review — 2026-10-13 UTC
The Solidity compiler moves from 0.8.25 to 0.8.37 to include the known-bug fixes described in the compiler guide. Foundry remains v1.4.4; the demo retains viaIR and 200 optimizer runs and explicitly targets Cancun. No CULTURE contract source or budget ceiling changes.
The 35 deterministic tests were remeasured with the new native compiler. The exact snapshot comparison passes against the new snapshot. All 39 contract tests, including the four fuzz tests, pass. Full test-function measurements include fixture operations and assertions; they are not transaction price estimates.
| Budgeted scenario | Previous measured gas | New measured gas | Unchanged ceiling |
|---|---|---|---|
| Configure maximum citations | 543,259 | 543,785 | 560,000 |
| Deterministic operation sequence | 569,237 | 570,651 | 900,000 |
| Complete lifecycle | 682,641 | 684,178 | 750,000 |
| Validator misconduct | 612,935 | 613,977 | 675,000 |
CultureRegistry runtime is 4,846 bytes and SelfPlayArena runtime is 11,657 bytes, both below the unchanged 24,000-byte ceilings. The actual scripts/check-budgets.ts check passes for both bytecode and all four gas budgets.
Use the current Foundry configuration and frozen dependencies:
pnpm run test:contracts
pnpm run test:contracts:gas
pnpm run check:budgetsThe earlier review remains the historical rationale for the scenario ceilings. Future updates must compare measurements and preserve or explicitly review budgets; a snapshot refresh alone does not establish performance or production readiness.
